Sony has long been a brand that’s synonymous with innovations and quality. This electronics company is well known for creating products such as the transistor radio TR-55, the home videotape recorder CV-2000, the portable—and also legendary—audio player Walkman, and the compact disc player CDP-101.
While the aforementioned products are now considered vintage tech, Sony is nowadays best known for two things: the Sony PlayStation gaming platform and as the world’s largest player in the premium TV market. Not only that, but Sony is also the second-largest TV brand by market share (preceded by Samsung) and the world’s third-largest TV manufacturer by annual sales figures.
The company’s TVs are renowned for their cutting-edge technology and superior performance, as they offer an immense viewing experience that stands out in an already crowded market. So, in this article, we’ll discuss the key features and technologies in Sony TVs that enhance your viewing experience. So, without further ado, let’s dive right in.
Sony’s TVs come in a variety of sizes and panel types, but the company’s commitment to excellent image quality is unwavering. Obviously, their OLED screens, mostly associated with Sony’s A95L and A80L Series, in which L denotes 2023 models, provide the best viewing experiences by providing the perfect black levels, fastest response times, and thin and lightweight design.
But one shouldn’t underestimate Sony’s X95L and X90L series, which employ LED technology to generate an image. The former relies on mini-LED technology that provides slightly better illumination and contrast compared to typical LED technology used by the latter. Even then, both TV series offer premium quality, which translates well to the viewing experience.
Additionally, the new TVs are equipped with the Cognitive XR Processor, which analyzes and recreates the content on the screen in the same way a human eye perceives the content. For example, the XR processor understands where humans tend to focus in a picture.
Next up is audio, and Sony takes the audio experience very seriously, particularly with its Acoustic Surface Audio technology available in select TV models. Sony believes that picture and sound in perfect harmony are incredibly important for immersiveness.
The Acoustic Surface Audio technology relies on the combination of front-firing speakers located behind the screens and two actuators that interact with the frame of the TV, which basically turns the entire screen into a giant speaker, thus creating an immersive sound-from-picture reality. It most definitely accentuates the action on the screen.
It’s also important to note that most of these features are built with gaming in mind. Sony, as a manufacturer of the best-selling console from the 6th generation of video game consoles onward, realized the need for TVs that are also aimed towards gaming enthusiasts.
Thus, nearly all Sony TVs come with features that make them compatible with the latest gaming consoles, including the PlayStation 5. This includes high refresh rates, low input lag, and support for gaming technologies, such as Auto Low-Latency Mode and Variable Refresh Rate, which ensure a smooth and responsive gaming experience.
And lastly, let’s discuss Smart capabilities. Sony TVs are powered by Android TV, which is well-known for its user-friendly interface and access to a massive library of apps, games, and all the popular streaming services. But the smart capabilities don’t end there; most models now come with Google Assistant built-in, allowing you to integrate your TV into your Smart Home environment.
In summary, Sony has been at the forefront of innovation when it comes to TV technologies, especially when it comes to unifying sound and image, creating virtual reality devices, and gaming experiences. With the addition of the aforementioned technologies, Sony TVs have transcended regular television and become the centerpieces of many entertainment systems.
