How to Pick the Right Samsung TV/Projector | KOA EDI

When it comes to screens, Samsung (along with LG) is always the right choice and something similar can be said for projectors. However, choosing the right product isn't always as straightforward as it seems, especially when our needs don't align with our wants and our budgets. So, in this article, we'll discuss how to pick the right Samsung TV or Projector for your needs and budget.

Size Matters

When it comes to creating a perfect viewing experience, especially for movie enthusiasts, size matters—and we're not referring to the screen size alone. Having a big screen is great, and there's nothing quite as thrilling as watching a basketball game with the ball on the screen being as big as it is in real life.

However, having a bigger screen is always a less fantastic experience if you're using the screen in a smaller room—reading the subtitles would be akin to watching a live tennis match. So, the screen size needs to fit the room you're placing the screen in.

Projectors, on the other hand, are much easier to use, at least in terms of image size. If your image is too big, just move the projector closer to the screen. Additionally, if the projector has a zoom control ring, you can use it to adjust the image size as well.

So, determining the room size, or at least sitting placement, would help us determine the size of the screen we need. Now we have to discuss the price.

Price

When it comes to the price of a particular TV, screen size is almost always the defining factor. Sure, other features, such as Smart-enabled capabilities, also affect the price, but not to the extent that size does. The math is rather simple: larger screens are costlier to make, have higher reject rates, higher transportation and handling costs, and often come at a premium.

Choosing the Right Product

The correlation between screen size and room size, as well as the sitting placement and viewing distance, are important considerations for creating an optimal viewing experience. In smaller rooms, sitting placement is typically opposite the TV. So, you really don't want a TV that's too large to overwhelm the space.

For example, Samsung QM32R-B or Samsung QM43B, 32" and 43", respectively, would work well for smaller bedrooms, while a 55-inch Samsung BE55T-H would work great for a smaller living room. For a spacious living room or even a home theater, you might consider something like a 75-inch Samsung BE75T-H.

In larger rooms with more flexible seating, screen size depends on sitting placement—the smaller the screen, the shorter the viewing distance. For example, an ideal viewing distance for a 43-inch Samsung BE43-T would be approximately 6 feet. Likewise, an ideal viewing distance for a gigantic 98-inch Samsung QB98T-B could easily surpass 11 feet.

Projectors are somewhat different; the image size can be adjusted via the zoom function or by simply moving the projector closer to or away from the screen surface. This means that you can adjust the image size according to your screen size. For example, the Samsung 120" LSP7T 4K Smart Laser Projector is designed to project an image to a 120" screen.

However, things aren't as simple as they sound. Each projector has a specification called a throw ratio, a metric that tells you how far the projector should be placed from the screen to achieve a specific image width. So, if your projector's diagonal screen size is 100", and the Samsung 120" LSP7T 4K Smart Laser Projector has a throw ratio of 0.254, you can easily calculate the ideal position of the projector.

Assuming that you're using a 100" screen size, your sitting distance should be approximately 10 feet away from the screen. However, the ideal placement of the projector is calculated by multiplying the throw ratio by screen size (in inches) and dividing the result by 12. In this case, it's 0.254 × 100 / 12 = 2.54. The ideal projector placement would be at approx. 2.1 feet from the screen.

Following the same formula, if we were to use a Samsung 130'' 2800-Lumen 4K Smart Laser Projector with a 0.189 throw ratio on a 100" screen, the viewing distance wouldn't change. The projector placement would be at approx. 1.5 feet away from the screen.

Summary

Having an overwhelmingly large screen is the perfect indicator that what we want isn't always what we need. When it comes to screen size, bigger doesn't necessarily mean better, so why would you pay a premium for a screen whose size would ruin the viewing experience?
