The Latest Samsung TV Technology | KOA EDI

Manufactured by one of the largest electronics and display screen manufacturers in the world, Samsung's TVs are widely regarded as one of the best TVs on the current market, and the list of reasons for that is by no means short. Truth be told, Samsung has perfected the TV.

Ranging from those massive 19-inch CRTs to the legendary Plano line and the newly introduced Neo QLED 8K, Samsung's TVs were always at the forefront, setting technological and image quality benchmarks at the time. And now, Samsung's 2023 product lineup offers nothing less than the quality we've all grown accustomed to.

Picture Quality

Most notably, the QLED series has taken the picture quality to new heights. QLED, or Quantum LED technology, enhances the viewing experience by outputting brighter and wider color volume and more brightness. The technology—whose name is, admittedly, a marketing gimmick—is great, as it provides the perfect blend of price accessibility of LCD with better color accuracy of LED TVs.

One of the standout features is the HDR capability, whose core idea is to process and display a broader range of exposure levels to create an image with greater dynamic range, thus bringing out the subtlest of details in both the darkest and the brightest of scenes.

The capabilities of HDR are particularly noticeable in Samsung's 8K TVs, such as an 85-inch Samsung Class QN900C, where the resolution is four times that of 4K, which offers much more details and clarity compared to 4K displays, let alone FullHD displays which were only capable of 1080p.

This brings us to innovation: frame interpolation was the hot new thing when it was introduced in Samsung TVs a few years back. It allowed the TV's hardware and software to receive typical digital image signals that were running at 24-30fps range and output it as 60fps image for a much smoother viewing experience.

While that feature has become the norm, the new innovation implementations nowadays revolve around AI upscaling technology. This uses machine learning to upscale lower-resolution content to 4K or even 8K, making all those oldies-but-goldies from the past century look sharper and more refined on new TVs—as if they were shot yesterday.

Smart Features

Features such as interpolations and AI upscaling lead us into the Smart Features territory. Samsung took the Smart implementations to a whole new level, making the TVs not only smart but also intuitive.

Tizen OS, the company's TV-driving operating system, offers a seamless and user-friendly interface for easier navigation and customization. It offers a number of streaming services and apps, ensuring that you're provided with a plethora of entertainment options, which are now at your fingertips. Gone are the days of sifting through TV channels; now, it's all about content on demand.

Oh, and let's not forget Bixby, the Siri of Samsung TVs, which allows users to control the TV and other connected devices using voice commands. While not that widespread in its use—at least from the end-user perspective—voice command does add a layer of convenience and accessibility to the set.

While on the topic of accessibility and content on demand, the emergence of Samsung's ecosystem also introduced a Tap View feature across several devices, which now allows you to mirror the contents of your Samsung smartphone onto the TC screen, facilitating an easier way to share photos, videos, or even mobile games, on a larger screen.

Final Thoughts

Regardless of whether you're a movie buff, an avid gamer, or just someone who enjoys watching good television on a great screen, Samsung continues to lead the way in TV technology by providing us with not just a fantastic product but an unparalleled viewing experience.
